Restoration does not create work for eternity. It must be reversible, because time and decay cannot be stopped. Only with the help of today’s science is it possible to slow down time — until the next generation can work on the pieces again. In the artwork “when I first met my patient …”, the restoration work itself and the longing for eternity are poetically reflected.

Sijo Choi Kim lives and works in Seoul and Leipzig. She works interdisciplinary and conceptually with diverse media. Phenomena and things that are marginalized, considered irrelevant or often overseen frequently attract her interest, including in the artistic practice. In poetic, playful, humorous, imaginative and yet strange ways, she brings these things into focus, humanizes and tells new narratives and realities. Sijo Choi Kim completed a bachelor’s degree in Film and Moving Image at Hong-ik University in South Korea and is currently studying Media Art in the expanded cinema class at HGB Leipzig.
