The phenomenon of the collection and preservation of Asian artefacts in European societies is known as semiophora. It means, that the actual meaning of an object is unknown, but the mere fact that it has some meaning creates a collector’s value. Like the Chimera, a monster from Greek mythology with a lion for a head, a goat for a body and a snake for a tail, these artefacts are reborn into a new life as artworks rather than mere possessions.

Yunseon Jeong (*1991, Seoul/ South Korea) works as an artist and tattoo artist in Leipzig and Seoul. She studied visual Media Design and Storytelling at the Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea. Yunseon Jeong has been studying media art at the HGB Leipzig since 2017 and is now part of the class expanded cinema led by Clemens von Wedemeyer and Mareike Bernien. Dealing with her own identity, she explores different emotions. Above all, she experiments with her own position, which she constantly rethinks.
