the blind corner
Anna Sopova is interested in shifting perspectives of surveillance. The museum visitor becomes an observable object as soon as he or she enters the museum; here the visitor is subjected to several stages of observation in order to track his or her behaviour. Showcases protect objects, but can also become interfaces of observation themselves. A mirror, a reflection in a showcase, sounds that allow us to determine the distance to the object. In what situations does glass become a mirror and vice versa? Technologies from the security and military sector are transferred to the museum and attention shifts from the collection to the visitor.
Anna Sopova is an artist, researcher, and lecturer whose practice combines installations, sculptural objects, photography, and 3D graphics. Her work draws on sociocultural research and often incorporates archival documents, found objects, and theoretical texts. Sopova explores themes such as surveillance and control systems, acoustic monitoring, civil resistance, accelerationism, and temporality. Influenced by science fiction literature, her interdisciplinary and interactive projects create speculative environments that invite critical reflection on contemporary political and technological conditions
