Terms and Conditions: HGB Leipzig & HaFI – the T&C “timeline”

“Terms and Conditions”, a joined one-year project by people affiliated with the classes of Photography and Media, Expanded Cinema and the Foundation in Media Art at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB Leipzig) partook in the eponymous research endeavor pertaining to the “legal form of images”, conceived by the Harun Farocki Institut (Berlin). The HGB project examined the legal and paralegal matrix of contemporary and historical image production. Questions of material and intellectual property, data protection, visual evidence, control and surveillance structure — as operations of the law — the visual culture and art of the present. The performances, lectures, videos and installations presented during the Rundgang at the HGB in February 2025 concluded a year-long cooperation with the HaFI, featured showcase studies and a collection of selected images on property, evidence and policing images. Accompanying these presentations was a “timeline” that offered a survey of individual projects developed and realized in the framework of “Terms and Conditions”. It is documented below.
